K.O Reveals How Long It Took Him To Discover The Beat For ‘SETE’ Currently Mzansi may have a few songs that they will be bopping to throughout the summer and into the holiday season, and K.O’s SETE is no exception.
The rapper gifted Mzansi and the whole world with one of the best songs in his music career, but to come up with a song of that magnitude the SA hip-hop OG had to go through some creative hurdles. During an interview with Dj Sbu on Hustlers Corner Podcast, K.O unpacked how long it took him to discover the SETE beat leading up to the making of the song.
The award-winning rapper revealed that his meeting with the Nigerian artist Ruger led him to discover the SETE beat. “Initially that was a beat I picked for another track I had on my album called ‘Demon’ featuring a young artist from Nigeria who’s doing amazing things right now his name is Ruger,” he said.
“So he was in the country earlier this year so I mean I got a call that I need to pull at the studio he wanted to link up, so I didn’t have a track, I was ready you know to pull for us to work on. So that night I actually reached out to a gang of producers you know locally and internationally for like a solid 12 hours straight trying to find a beat, eventually, I found the Sete beat,” said K.O
K.O claimed that he and Ruger did not produce a song with a Sete beat together, but he persisted in trying since he thought he could create something unique from it. “In the back of my mind I’m like nah, I’m not walking away from this beat because there is something that is calling me on this particular track.”
The Caracara hitmaker stated that he went ahead and recorded his part on the beat, but he felt the track needed a vocalist to complete it, as there were several names of local vocalists that came to his mind. “I went and I recorded my part, so I’m thinking ok cool who do I get, started thinking let me get the typical vocalist, let me get a Sjava, let me get a Shasha you know those people.”
In a bid to make something different, the rapper mentioned that he went on and get hold of YoungStunna and the latter expressed his excitement by sending through a chorus and a verse for the song. “I’m like let’s pull someone from a different genre and see what they can potentially do, Im like let me reach out to Stunna and the team is like yeah yeah. Plus Stunna comes from a hip-hop background he’s killing the Yanos game but he comes from a hip-hop background,” he said.
“I actually reached out and asked for a chorus, that’s all I was asking for intwana was so excited, he sends me a chorus and a verse, of course, I’m not complaining, I’m like okay cool.” Said K.O.
