Following the popularity of Lemons (Lemonade), Nasty C acknowledged that his contribution to the song made him realize how vital it is for him to sing something that resonates with his South African audience. In an interview with SAHipHopMag, the award-winning rapper stated that he has now considered mentioning certain things that are easily relatable to his Mzansi listeners like what he did on Lemons (Lemonade).

There is a bit of a shift, not necessarily in just a way I approach music as a whole but like now I can think ok cool if I want a song to really resonate with my South African fans I have to kind of mention these things that are very easily relatable to them, morvite, pepper steak pie,” he said.

The rapper admitted that he has been a rapper who was aiming to serve the whole world with some of the lyrics in his music. “I’ve always been the type of guy to just shoot for the whole world type of thing, so I have always been touching on the global trends, but now it’s like its nice to be able to at least know,” he added.

Following his realisation that he needs a new approach to his music, Nasty C also admitted that he was having cold feet to collaborate with AKA on Lemons (Lemonade). Durban rapper remarked that he was unsure whether he would deliver to his full potential because the sound was unfamiliar to him.

“Not that I wasn’t trying to jump on it I was like, I was very unsure if I was gonna be able to deliver you know, obviously it’s not my kind of sound,” he said.
