Thato Saul Explains Why Believes He Can Face Off Any SA Rapper In A Rap Battle. There is no denying that the Pretoria-based rapper Thato Saul enjoyed a successful year in 2022. Just a few weeks after dropping his debut album ‘Life Is A Gangsta’ last year, the project topped the trend list as well as the local music charts too.
The project lived up to expectations, and his storytelling visuals integrated the anecdotes into an intricate compilation of Pheli and, by default, every township in Mzansi. Speaking during an interview on PopCast Podcast at CottonFest with Ms Cosmo and Sipho the rapper expressed how confident he is with his music and wordplay.
The rapper was asked who can he challenge with dope music in SA hip hop right now. “Who can you challenge with bars, freestyle or an EP right now,” asked Ms Cosmo. In response, Thato Saul confidently said; “everyone.”
“I feel like if you don’t have that type of energy in this game you are not going anywhere,” he said. “When you are speaking about Cap City, Cap City is essentially the culture in PTA, basically it was all about cypher, rapping, and all of that.
“So I come from that type, so I’ve always been competitive you didn’t have a choice. So it’s still within, so I feel like I can go toe to toe.” Thato Saul added that he feels like not many rappers will go toe to toe with him. “I feel like not a lot of people can go toe to toe with me,” he affirmed.
The rapper’s project Life Is A Gangsta proved that it was well-crafted and it came out on top at the SA Hip Hop Awards winning Best Album Of The Year. Thato Saul also stated during the interview that this year he is going to drop another body of work. “I hate going twelve months without dropping, so around July I don’t know, so I have to drop an album this year, I don’t have a choice,” he said.
