As much as Sjava is consistent in delivering good music every time he steps behind the mic, the rapper admitted to experiencing some mishaps during the making of the Black Banth soundtrack. During an interview on SABC News, the Umama hitmaker said Sjava said he record the Black Panther song on the last day. This is because he was left confused about whether he should make the song in English or his native Zulu language.

“I remember speaking of Black Panther, I recorded that song on the last day,” he said. “It got to a point where I was Kendrick (“I’m sorry”) I can’t do it because I was so confused, the part of me is saying do it in English so the world can understand what you saying, again I’m thinking but that’s not who I am. Should I do it in Zulu, what do I say? What do I talk about? So it was all of those thoughts so at the end of the day I couldn’t write anything.

Sjava said that his phone call conversation with Kendrick Lamar motivated him as he was given a leeway to express himself without losing his identity. “Kendrick said to me on the phone, please do what you do, that’s why I’m calling you, that’s why I’m reaching out to you, don’t do what you don’t do. So those words just made me realise actually let me just do me. I went in there and I said; San’bonan endlini
Sjava kajama Indlalifa igama ley’nsizwa Mina, ng’phuma le enzansi
, and the rest is history.”
